Fontana Teen Car Accident Kills Three children

A 15-year-old teenager who grabbed his mother’s car keys and slipped out for a joyride with his half brother and friend in Fontana, crashed the car into a home after a high-speed police chase. All three boys died in the crash that has generated fierce debate in the city over parental supervision of children.

Orange County Karate Teacher Arrested for Sexual Abuse

An Anaheim karate teacher has been arrested for molesting a 4-year-old girl. 61-year-old Jon Patrick Harrison was arrested on Tuesday after the girl complained to her family about the molestation. According to the Orange County Register, the girl had probably been abused about two weeks prior, but did not tell her parents until Tuesday. Harrison has now been arrested on charges of committing lewd and lascivious acts on a child below the age of 14.

Boy Injured in San Jose Pedestrian Accident Clings on to Life

An 8-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a San Jose pedestrian accident continues to fight a life and death struggle. Alejandro Casillas remains in a coma with a fractured skull and pressure building rapidly around his brain.

Boy Injured in Disneyland Park Ride Accident is Dead

For eight years, Brandon Zucker fought to regain his life as it had been before an amusement park accident at Disneyland altered it dramatically. On January 26, the 13-year-old who spent the last eight years not able to walk or talk, died at an Orange County hospital.

Trucker in Orange County Accident Gets One Year in Jail

More than a year and a half after a horrific truck accident killed three little siblings, the driver of the tractor trailer in that crash has been sentenced to a year in jail and five years of probation.

California Company To Conduct Stem Cell Trial for Spinal Cord Injury

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a clinical trial that will study the effects of stem cell therapy for the treatment of persons suffering from spinal cord injuries. The company that will be conducting the study is Geron Corporation, a biotech company based in Menlo Park, California.

Motorist Files Claim Against City of Concord for Defective Road

A Concord resident has filed a claim against the city saying that the city maintained an unsafe intersection that contributed to his accident and left him with serious injuries.

Shaun Waterhouse was driving in his Honda CRX and as he reached an intersection, another driver in a Ford Ranger failed to yield the right of way for him. The Ford ended up on top of the CRX, and the resulting injuries have been extremely serious and life altering. Waterhouse suffered mild brain injuries and permanent loss of hearing. Life after the crash has been a struggle, consisting of extensive therapy and rehabilitation to learn to live with his new challenges.

Months After Pool Safety Act, Drowning Accidents Still Very Real Possibility

A few weeks ago, the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act aimed at making swimming pools around the country safer, and the possibility of horrible drowning and mutilations a thing of the past came into force. We reported on our blog then, on how the Act has not really resulted in the installation of new drain covers in all California pools. The WSJ Law Blog now paints a similar picture that’s being seen around the country. Even with the new federal safety rule, thousands of swimming pools in the US continue to be fitted with single drain caps that present a strong danger of deaths by drowning or entrapment.

Hudson Plane Crash Investigation Begins

It was a miraculous escape for the 155 passengers on board a US Airways jetliner that had to make an emergency landing on the Hudson River on Thursday. The only injuries reported were a flight attendant with two broken legs. All passengers escaped major injuries, and were full of praise for the pilot who steered his plane to safety on the water.

Call for Ban on Cell Phone Use – Is California Ready for It?

A safety advocacy group is calling for a complete ban on cell phone use while driving to prevent the growing number of car accidents that can be traced to cell phone usage.
