CHP Report Says Driver Error and Truck Defects to Blame for Santa Clarita Truck Accident
A California Highway Patrol investigation report into the truck accident near Santa Clarita last year has concluded that the driver’s speed played a major part in the crash. The report has also expressed concern over the state of the tractor-trailer at the time of the truck accident, and this, the district attorney fears, could be used by the defense team as the principal cause of the accident.
New Rules for Engineers After Rialto Metrolink Train Crash
In response to renewed safety fears after yet another train accident, Metrolink has now pushed new safety rules into force with immediate effect. The rule requires drivers to slow down the train when they are approaching a red signal. The new rule was decided on Friday, and mandates that drivers will slow to a speed of 40 mph or less when they receive an alert of a possible red or stop light ahead.

A pickup truck driver who smashed his vehicle into a car in Manteca, California in a severe car accident that caused injuries to its two occupants, left an unlikely calling card at the scene – his vehicle’s license plate. That was all the evidence police needed to nail the driver who had fled from the scene of the accident.

San Francisco Sees Pedestrian and Bicycle Accident Rates Increase in 2007
The effects of the move to bring down pollution and crowding levels in San Francisco by encouraging more people to bike or walk around are being felt in the increasing number of pedestrian and bicycle accidents on its roads. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the city witnessed a dramatic spike in the rates of pedestrian and bicycle accident related injuries in 2007. The number of people dying in traffic accidents in the city also increased by a whopping 50 percent, says a new report by the California Highway Patrol.

California Nursing Home Appeals Fine for Resident's Death
This is a classic example of the kind of nursing home abuse that passes for care at some of California’s assisted living facilities. A nursing home in Bakersfield, California that had been fined $100,000 in July for the death of one of its residents from choking on a ketchup packet, has announced its decision to appeal the fine.

Four Students Killed in Napa Valley, California Car Accident
A regular post-basketball game trip to Safeway to get something to eat ended up horribly wrong for four Napa Valley, California students who were killed in a car accident over the weekend. The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the four victims were students of Pacific Union College in Napa Valley. Apparently, the boys had just finished a game at the college gym, and had set off for Safeway when the driver lost control of the car. It skidded into oncoming traffic, and collided with a pickup truck.
