The Reeves Law Group is a large and well-known law firm of personal injury lawyers. We have won top results for thousands of accident victims in injury and death cases, while earning a reputation for professionalism and competence.

While much of the attention following the Metrolink train crash in Los Angeles has focused on the victims, and those who were injured, little space has been voted to the other survivors – the families of those still in the hospital, and those who have died as result of the deadly accident. Three weeks after the devastating train crash that killed 25 people, and injured 130, these silent survivors continue to wake up each day to find the next 24 hours a struggle.

Now, charitable organizations are starting to raise funds for these people, and make the road to recovery and rehabilitation easier for the injured and their families. One such organization is the Simi Valley Community Foundation, which has been busy collecting money to help family members, under the umbrella of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce.

So far, the Foundation has had 10 people ask for help, but it suspects that more and more people will come forward in the days ahead as the real human tragedy of this train accident begins to unfold. The Foundation insists that it still has not raised enough money to help many people, and efforts are on to spur fundraising activities at the Foundation.

One of the injured who still remains in the hospital, and faces a long and arduous journey to recovery and rehabilitation is Rachael Mofya, a Zambian exchange student who was living with her host parents Pat Abruzzese, and his wife Joanne. Mofya was a student at Los Angeles’ Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and was on his way back to the Abruzzese’ Simi Valley home when the train crash took place. She remained unconscious for days after the train crash at Chatsworth, and has only now begun to make signs of recovery. She has begun to breathe on her own, and is able to move her hands and feet – baby steps on a road to complete recovery that is expected to take months. The Abruzzeses, however, continue to remain ever vigilant by her bedside. They have found the help of the Simi Valley Foundation a godsend.

The Foundation collects money that survivor’s families can use to pay for the expenses that may not be mentioned when Metrolink accident attorneys make their case against Metrolink and others, but still have the ability to cause families sleepless nights. There are mortgage payments that have to be made – banks are not likely to give you extra time just because you spent the entire day by a loved ones’ hospital bed. There are transportation costs that occur, and of course, there are medical expenses that rise by the minute.

These survivor stories are never reported in the front-page news. It’s not news if a family is behind on last month’s bills because their only breadwinner is lying in the hospital with a dozen tubes sticking out of him. We applaud the generosity of the Simi Valley Foundation as well other generous spirits at the Simi Sunrise Rotary and Cornerstone Church, who have been doing all they can to help these people.
