Recall of More Than 400,000 Vehicles Due to Toyota Steering Problems

Toyota steering problems caused another recall of more than 400,000 vehicles.  According to the company, there are no reports of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

The recall covers 420,000 vehicles, including 283,000 Toyota vehicles, and more than 137,000 Lexus vehicles in the United States.  The recall is linked to a potential crankshaft pulley problem.  The problem can cause the steering wheel to jam, or make it difficult for the driver to turn the wheel.  Toyota says that there are no reports of any accidents or injuries from these steering issues.

The recall includes the 2004 and 2005 models of the Toyota Camry, Highlander, Solana and Sienna, 2004 Avalon, and 2006 Highlander HV.  Toyota will soon contact all owners of cars involved in this recall.  The company will contact owners after it produces enough numbers of replacement parts.  Owners who notice any steering problems with their vehicles can get their cars inspected at their dealer.

It’s the latest in a series of safety problems that Los Angeles personal injury lawyers have found at the Japanese automaker.  Earlier this year, Toyota recalled 2.17 million vehicles because of mechanical defects that could cause unintended acceleration.

Since September 2009, the company has recalled more than thirteen million vehicles in the United States alone.  The recalls have been due to a number of issues, including sudden and unintended acceleration, steering issues and other safety problems.  However, the maximum number of cars have been recalled due to problems involving sudden acceleration of the vehicle.

Many of the sudden and unintended acceleration incidents have resulted in accidents that have caused injuries and deaths.  The company faces hundreds of personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits from persons injured in these accidents and families of those killed in accidents involving sudden acceleration.  Additionally, the company also faces consumer fraud lawsuits filed by individuals, who allege that Toyota vehicles declined substantially in value because of all the safety problems at the company.
