Swing Set Recall due to Fall Hazards

Swing Set Recall

The agency has received several reports of swing sets collapsing

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is alerting consumers to a swing set recall due to fall hazards.  The agency has received several reports of swing sets collapsing, leading to injuries.

Approximately 5,500 Playsafe Dartmouth swing sets imported by Wisconsin-based Pacific Cycle Inc. have been included in the recall.  According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the sling-style seats on these swing sets are prone to cracking or splitting.  Children in the swingsets may be at risk of fall accidents.

According to Pacific Cycle Inc., it has received at least five reports of swingset collapses during use.  Some of the incidents ended with minor injuries, like bruises and scrapes.

The recall involves Playsafe Dartmouth swing sets of model number 22-PS340, with date codes FSD0115AA and FSD0315AA.  Each swingset comes with six metal legs and two yellow sling style seats, sliding board, a two-person glider, hanging rings and a four-person lawn swing with plastic seats.  The swing sets were manufactured in China and sold almost exclusively at Toys “R” Us stores across the country.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has advised consumers to stop using the swing sets.  Consumers need to contact Pacific Cycle Inc. in order to gain free replacement swing seats.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission wants to hear from consumers who had had accidents involving the swing sets.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is also attacking another product safety problem that has Los Angeles defective product lawyers very concerned.  The agency announced a voluntary recall of all pourable fuel gels manufactured by nine American companies.  The recall is linked to several reports of fires and burns from exploding fire pots.  These fire pots can explode when users pour fuel into a pot that is still burning.

The recall now involves more than 2 million units of gel fuel.  These gels are packaged in one quarter and 1 gallon plastic jugs, and are available in both scented and non-scented varieties.  At least one California-based company is involved in the recall.  Antioch-based Bond Manufacturing is one of nine American companies whose fire pots are being recalled.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission is advising American consumers who already have these fire pots at home to contact the companies and obtain a refund.

Those who wish to continue using the firepots must exercise extreme caution.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission has the following advice for consumers.  Avoid overfilling the firepots.  Keep firepots away from children when they are not in use.  Keep a portable fire extinguisher at hand while the firepot is in use.  Avoid pouring gel into an open flame.  Make sure a firepot has cooled before you add fuel gel.  Many of these burn and fire incidents related to the use of fire pots have involved people who unknowingly poured gel into a fire pot that was still burning.
