Sharon Stone Negligence Lawsuit

Peter Krause suffered a fall on Stone’s property

Hollywood star Sharon Stone appeared in a Los Angeles court this week to testify in a negligence lawsuit brought by a man who claims that he suffered serious injuries in a slip and fall accident on her property.

The lawsuit has been filed by Peter Krause, who suffered a fall on Stone’s property in 2006.    According to the lawsuit, Krause was in the backyard of Sharon’s house on the day of the accident, and was wiring speakers.  He claims that he fell off a concealed drop off which he was not aware of.  He slipped and grabbed onto a lattice, which gave way.  He then tumbled down the steep drop-off.

As a result of the fall, he suffered serious knee injuries.  Since the accident, he has been unable to return to proper employment.  He’s claiming at least $35,000 in damages.

According to Krause’s lawsuit, during the fall, he had grabbed onto a lattice screen, which crumbled when he grabbed onto it, contributing to his fall.  However, Stone who appear in a Los Angeles courtroom to testify, says that her backyard has never had a lattice.  It has always had a chain-link fence going around the backyard.  She offered pictures taken of the chain-link fence at her son’s birthday party as evidence.  She also presented photographs that were taken of the chain-link fence this week.  When lawyers presented a photo of a lattice on her property, she insisted that it was not her property.  However, when lawyers wanted to know whether she had warned people about the drop-off, she admitted that she had never done so.

Krause however insists that the chain-link fence was installed after his fall in 2006.  His boss, who was also at the property during the accident, has testified that the wall had lattice and not a chain-link fence at the time of the accident.  Krause’s case was further solidified after a civil engineer testified before the jury that the backyard had been very unsafe at the time of the accident.  According to the engineer, the accident could have been prevented if the actress has ensured that the lattice on top of the wall had been framed, and not just strung together.

Los Angeles slip and fall accident lawyers typically file premises liability lawsuits when a person suffers injuries from the unsafe or dangerous condition of another person’s property.  A person can be injured in a number of ways on another person’s property.  There can be slip and fall accidents, swimming pool accidents, fires, explosions and other types of accidents.  A person may have a claim for negligence when he’s injured not just on a commercial property like a hotel, restaurant, mall, theater, shopping complex or other kinds of commercial establishments, but also when he’s injured in other people’s homes.  Even residential homeowners must make sure that their property is safe for guests or visitors.
