San Francisco Pedestrian Killed in Muni Accident

Pedestrian killed in san francisco

The pedestrian was killed right on the crosswalk.

There has been yet another accident involving a Muni vehicle.  A San Francisco pedestrian walking on a crosswalk in central San Francisco was killed when she was struck by a Muni bus last week.

According to police, the accident occurred in the Castro Neighborhood of San Francisco.  The victim, a woman believed to be between 25 and 30 years of age, was walking on a crosswalk.  The bus had just made a left turn to pick up passengers.  The woman had nearly reached the end of the crosswal,k when she was struck by the bus.  She sustained fatal injuries.

According to residents, it is uncommon to see a Muni bus in that area.  However, police say that sometimes a bus will be sent into that area to relieve congestion.  That is what seems to have happen on the day of the accident.  There were no passengers on the bus at the time.  Alcohol and drug tests have been conducted on the driver of the bus.  As of now, police don’t believe that he was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

You only have to take a walk down any California streets to understand the risks that pedestrians face here.  California has some of the most pedestrian-friendly laws in the country, but implementation of these laws has been thwarted by a safety culture that centers on the safety of motorists, and not pedestrians and bicyclists.  Far too many pedestrian accidents in California occur because drivers are not vigilant in looking out for pedestrians.  Most pedestrian accidents occur even when pedestrians are following all the rules of the road.  For instance, in this accident, the San Francisco pedestrian was walking on a marked and designated crosswalk, and was not breaking any traffic safety rules.  That didn’t stop her from being fatally struck by a bus. Los Angeles pedestrian accident lawyers see this situation all too often.

Persons involved in pedestrian accidents may suffer serious and debilitating injuries that leave them with serious financial hardship.  Even a pedestrian accident of moderate impact can leave a pedestrian severely injured.  Apart from fractures, a pedestrian is also at a high risk of suffering life altering injuries like spinal cord injuries and brain injuries.  These injuries typically have a long-term effect on a person’s health, further adding to his financial strain.

If you have been injured in a pedestrian accident in California, avoid speaking to insurance companies without the presence of a Los Angeles pedestrian accident lawyer.  Many pedestrian accidents leave victims with life altering injuries, which means that victims may require compensation not just for medical expenses, but also for any future medical costs that may arise.  Additionally, victims may also be eligible for pain and suffering damages
