San Francisco Citizen Seriously Injured in Hit and Run Bicycle Accident

hit-and-run bicycle accident

A San Francisco citizen was seriously injured in a hit and run bicycle accident.

The San Francisco Police Department is calling on witnesses, who have any information about a recent hit-and-run bicycle accident to come forward to help with investigations.

The bicyclist was riding on Geneva and Ocean Avenues, when he was struck by a vehicle.  The car struck the bicycle causing the bicyclist to fall, and then hit the bicyclist.  The driver then simply sped from the scene.  Fortunately, there were some firefighters near the scene of the accident, and they were able to take the victim to the accident.  He is reported to be in a serious condition.

Unfortunately, the witnesses were not able to provide a description of the car or the motorist.  The San Francisco Police Department is now calling on persons have any information about the accident to come forward.

Barely 10 days into 2012, and San Diego bicycle accident attorneys are already coming across a number of accidents involving bicyclists and pedestrians.  Just last week, the state recorded its very first bicycle accident of 2012.

Unfortunately, many of the accidents that San Diego bicycle accident lawyers see involve motorists who are simply too self involved or ignorant to give a 2nd thought to bicyclists.  It’s easy to speculate that the motorist in this incident must have violated the bicyclist’s right-of-way or violated traffic laws for him to leave the scene of the accident like this.

Many bicycle accidents end in serious injuries or fatalities.  A bicyclist has minimal protection in the event of an accident, and even wearing a bicycle accident helmet may not guarantee protection from these catastrophic injuries.  In fact, bicyclists are some of the most exposed and vulnerable persons on the roads out there.

In 2012, Los Angeles bicycle accident attorneys would like to see less tolerance for drivers who claim that they did not see a bicyclist until they actually hit him/her.  Police need to stop giving credence to motorists who claim that they failed to see a bicyclist and use this as an excuse.  There also needs to be more empathy for bicyclists who have been involved in accidents.  Often, bicyclists find that their concerns about safety after they have been involved in an accident are not taken seriously.  This creates an uncomfortable and unsafe environment for bicyclists, and is part of the reason why many of them hesitate to report accidents.
