Over 1 million Hewlett-Packard fax machines were recalled in the United States due to overheating and fire hazards.

Over 1 million Hewlett-Packard fax machines were recalled in the United States, after these were linked to overheating and fire hazards.

Meanwhile, thousands of owners of dishwashers across the country are reporting that their dishwashers are susceptible to fire and smoke hazards.

The Hewlett-Packard recall involves more than 1 million HP fax machines in North America.  According to the company, these fax machines contain faulty electronic electric components inside the machine that can possibly malfunction, causing the machines to overheat, and possibly leading to a fire.

The company says that it is aware of at least 7 incidents in which the HP fax machines caught fire.  Six of these incidents occurred in the United States and one incident occurred in Canada.  In at least one of the instances, the fire incident resulted in significant property damage.  In another incident, a consumer suffered a burn injury from the fire.

Hewlett-Packard is asking consumers to stop using the HP fax machines included in the recall.  The models included in the recall are the HP Fax 1040 and the HP Fax 1050.  Consumers are advised to disconnect these machines from their electrical outlets, and contact the company toll-free on 888-654-9296.

These machines were sold at electronic stores and retailers across the country, between November 2004 and December 2011.  Some of the fax machines were replacement units for HP fax machines involved in a previous recall in June 2008.

Other fire and burn injury hazards are being linked to Whirlpool dishwasher units.  According to a number of incidents across the country, the dishwashers began overheating and caught fire.   An investigation by a news channel found thousands of incidents across the country involving such dishwasher fires.  Incidents have been reported from Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Phoenix, Denver, Baltimore and Florida.

Consumers have reported going to bed after having switched on the dishwasher, and waking up to the smell of burning plastic which they traced to the dishwasher.  Investigations of some of the dishwashers revealed burnt wiring and melted plastic inside the door of the dishwasher.  The channel claims that the problem likely affected thousands of dishwashers sold under the Whirlpool, KitchenAid and Kenmore Brands.  Hundreds of complaints have been reported.

San Diego burn injury lawyers find these dishwasher fire risks even greater because many people prefer to place dishes in the dishwasher just before they go to bed.  The risk that the overheating and smoking can lead to a full-blown fire in the kitchen while people are sleeping, is very real.
