Lowe Gas Grills Recalled because of Fire and Burn Hazards

California product liability lawyers are drawing attention to a recall of gas grills because of a fire and burn hazard. The gas grills were sold at Lowes nationwide.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that importer LG Sourcing Inc of North Carolina is recalling about 663,000 gas grills in the United States. The recall has been announced because the burners can deteriorate, causing irregular flames. The lids of some grill models can also catch fire. According to the company, it has received about 40 reports of fires from deteriorating burners, and 23 reports of lids catching fire. In at least one case, the person suffered an eye injury that required surgery, while the firm received 21 reports of minor burns to the hand, arms and face.

The gas grills were manufactured by Lucas Innovation Inc of China. Health Canada is also recalling 1,700 of these gas grills. The grills were sold exclusively at Lowes retail outlets across the US between September 2009 and May 2009, for between $200 and $250.  The recalled gas grills fall under the SLG series, Perfect Flame brand. Both propane and natural gas grills are included in the recall. The grills are made of steel, and are painted black or gray metal.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has asked consumers to immediately stop using the gas grills, and obtain free replacement burners and lids. While free replacement burners are available for all models, free replacement lids are only available for model numbers SLG2007A, SLG2007B, SLG2007BN, SLG 2008A.

Fire and burn injuries may occur because of defective products that catch fire exposing the product user to burns. Some experts also classify a last category of burns called fourth degree burns, but for practical purposes, there isn’t much to differentiate third degree burns from fourth degree burns.

Burn injuries may result in scarring disfigurement, nerve damage, singed eyelashes and eyebrows, and loss of sensation in the affected part.
