Los Angeles Tour Bus Accident Leaves Several Injured

Tour bus accident

At least nine passengers on the tour bus also suffered injuries

At least 11 persons suffered injuries in a tour bus accident in Los Angeles County last week. The accident occurred in Rosemead, and involved a tour bus that was carrying passengers to a casino.

The accident occurred at the end of a sequence of events that involved another accident. A Honda Civic rear ended a Nissan Sentra, pushing the vehicle into oncoming traffic. The Sentra collided head-on with a bus. Both the bus driver and the driver of the Sentra suffered critical injuries, and had to be rushed to the hospital. Both men are believed to have suffered leg fractures. At least nine passengers on the tour bus also suffered injuries. All nine passengers had to be taken to local hospitals for an evaluation of their injuries and because of complaints of pain. The bus was operated by US Asia Bus Service, a San Francisco-based company.

According to witnesses at the scene, the Honda Civic driver was talking on his cell phone when he rear-ended the Nissan. However, police have not been able to confirm if the driver was indeed distracted at the time of the accident. Investigations into the accident are still going on, and so far, there have been no arrests or citations made.

It is still too early to say whether either of the motorists that were involved in this collision, or the bus driver, were distracted or driving recklessly at the time of the accident. However, if it is found that the Civic driver was indeed using his cell phone at the time of the accident and that this contributed to the crash, the motorist may be held liable for damages that occurred as a result of the accident.

Cell phone use behind the wheel continues to be rampant in California, despite laws banning text messages and the use of hand-held cell phones while driving. Neither of these two bans is enough to eradicate the distracted driving menace completely. For instance, there are enough studies to indicate that the use of hands-free sets causes just as much distraction as hand-held cell phones. However, California law enforcement officers have found it hard to enforce even these two bans.

A bus accident lawyer in California can name not just the bus company or the bus operator, but also other parties in a claim. For instance, if there are motorists involved who cause an accident that injure passengers on a bus, these passengers can name the motorists in a bus accident claim.

Besides other motorists, there are other parties who can be named in a California bus accident claim.. The bus company can be named if it sent out a defective bus, or failed to hire experienced and incompetent drivers. The bus maintenance company can be named if it performed poor repairs, which contributed to the crash. In the case of transit buses, or city or state government-owned buses, the agency responsible can be named in a claim.
