Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

Do not drink and drive!

The California Highway Patrol has just released the results of its investigation into a deadly accident involving a sport-utility vehicle and a Greyhound bus in Fresno that killed six people.  According to the report, the accident, which occurred in July last year was the result of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The California Highway Patrol investigations blame the accident on the fact that the driver of the SUV was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.  The 18-year-old motorist and her friends had obtained the alcohol from a friend, and had been drinking before they went to a club.  Soon after the club closed, the two women set off home.

Somewhere on Freeway 99, the motorist lost control of her SUV, and flipped over.  However, it was not this accident that was fatal.  Even after the SUV rollover accident,, the two women was still alive,.  In fact, they were trying to get out of the SUV when they were struck by a Greyhound bus.  About two minutes after this rollover accident, the Greyhound bus came down through 99, and hit the SUV.

The 18-year-old driver and her two passengers were killed in the accident.  The driver of the Greyhound as well as two passengers in the bus were also killed in the accident.

According to the California Highway Patrol, it was nighttime, and visibility was poor.  The driver of the Greyhound did not see the overturned SUV, with its undercarriage facing the bus.  The Greyhound driver, according to the California Highway Patrol was not able to avoid hitting the SUV because he could not see it.  The SUV had been left without lights after the accident.

Meanwhile, the owner of the store which sold the alcohol consumed by the motorist here is under investigation.  According to the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, the owner of the A.-1 Liquor is being investigated for selling alcohol to minors.  The role of a 21-year-old woman, who allegedly supplied alcohol to the three underage women, is also being probed.  If investigators find that the liquor store is at fault, the store could be fined or even lose its license.

This was an accident that could have been avoided through more responsible driving overall, and avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol.  It’s also hard to understand why visibility on the road was so poor that the bus driver could not see the overturned SUV directly in his path.

Drunk driving accidents tend to be some of the most high impact, serious accidents, because these are very often accompanied by reckless driving and speeding.  This summer, Los Angeles car accident attorneys encourage all California drivers to drive responsibly, and avoid driving under the influence.
