Dog Bite Incident Leads to Violent Brawl

Dog Bite Incident

The woman was bitten by a crossbreed dingo-fox terrier

A dog bite incident was the cause of a violent brawl in a Sydney neighborhood last week.  The entire incident is believed to have begun when a fifty-year-old woman was attacked by a dog.  However, things quickly took a turn for the worse, when the woman’s family confronted the dog’s owner.

The woman was bitten by a crossbreed dingo-fox terrier early in the morning.  The attack caused the woman to fall, and she suffered puncture wounds, cuts, lacerations and abrasions.  The dog belonged to the owner of a house nearby, and had escaped from the yard.

The victim’s son and daughter then went to the owner of the dog for a confrontation.  The owner, a sixty-two-year-old man, who was probably expecting a confrontation, had   armed himself with an axe, but before he could attack the victim’s children, he was disarmed.  Luckily, law enforcement officers quickly arrived at the scene and broke up what could have been a nasty brawl.

All three were later arrested and charged.  The sixty-two-year-old man was charged with using an offensive weapon, as well as charges relating to the dog bite.

Dog bites are some of the most traumatic injuries that a person can suffer.  In fact, San Diego dog bite lawyers often notice that the emotional scars after a dog bite last much longer than the physical scars.

That’s not to say that the physical scars are not traumatic.  Dog bites can leave victims with severe facial injuries, lacerations, abrasions and puncture wounds.  Many of the injuries associated with dog bites require treatment in an emergency medical hospital, emergency room, or even hospitalization.  In many cases, victims are left with serious facial injuries that require cosmetic surgeries to restore the appearance of the skin.  However, the emotional toll of a dog bite can last for years after an attack.  A dog bite may last just a few seconds, but the trauma of the attack may stay with a victim for days after.  The viciousness of a dog bite can cause an excessive fear of animals or dogs in children.

Victims could also suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  This is a condition that a person usually develops after he has been faced with a life-threatening situation.  Dog bites definitely fall into that category.  A person suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder suffers from nightmares, flashbacks, social withdrawal, depression and other psychological symptoms that can be hard to diagnose, and even more challenging to treat.
