CPSC Warns about Fall Accidents from Bumbo Baby Seats Placed on Elevated Surfaces.

There have been many cases of fall accidents from Bumbo baby seats

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bumbo International are warning parents and caregivers against placing the Bumbo baby seats on elevated surfaces, as reports of fall accidents involving infants who were placed on these surfaces continue to pour in.

San Diego personal injury lawyers find that fall accidents involving infants who are placed in a Bumbo baby seat that is on an elevated surface like a chair, a table or counter top, continue to occur in spite of the fact that the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the company have announced recalls in the past.  In 2007, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bumbo International announced a massive recall of the baby seats after a number of fall accidents involving children who fell off the baby seats that were placed on elevated surfaces.

At the time of the 2007 recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission was aware of at least 20 cases involving babies who fell off the baby seats.  In at least three of these cases, the infant suffered serious injuries, including skull fractures.

Now, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says that it is aware of at least forty-five fall accidents involving infants who fell off the Bumbo baby seats after the 2007 recall.  At least seven of these fall accidents involved infants who ultimately suffered skull fractures from the falls.  In addition, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is aware of at least 15 incidents, in which the baby managed to maneuver out of the baby seat that had been placed on the floor, or at unknown heights.  In these incidents, babies suffered a skull fracture in at least two incidents.  One of the babies suffered a concussion.

Bumbo baby seats are popular because they help a baby to sit in an upright position where they’re able to hold up their heads.  The, baby seats come with a warning that informs parents that the seat may not protect the baby from a fall in case of any movement.  Many of the accidents that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has seen with the use of the product involved infants who leaned forward from the baby seat, or leaned over backwards, and fell off the seat.  The infants who fell off the seats are between three months and ten months old.  These infants have very tender skulls, and may have a much higher risk of serious head injuries and brain damage from falls.
