Consumer Reports Recall Alert for Lexus For Possible Risk of Rollover Accident

A Consumer Reports recall warning has been issued recently. At the rate at which new safety issues are popping out of Toyota vehicles, California car accident lawyers may need a separate blog dedicated to Toyota lawsuits. This week, the automaker received another blow to its reputation following a series of months that have been the worst in its history. Influential Consumer Reports magazine issued a “don’t buy” alert for the company’s new 2010 Lexus GX 460 SUV.

According to the magazine, the vehicle didn’t perform up to par in some of its emergency handling tests. The research team at Consumer Reports found that the SUV had a tendency to slide sideways when the foot was taken off the gas pedal. According to Consumer Reports, it issued the Consumer Reports recall alert because something like this could possibly contribute to a rollover accident on a highway.

Consumer Reports is an influential auto market analyst, and Toyota is taking the alert very seriously indeed. The company has also already issued a statement aimed at damage control. The statement says that the company has found no problems with its  own testing, but is looking at the Consumer Reports description of the problem. Consumer Reports has already informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue.

The new Lexus was introduced a month ago, and has already sold more than 5,000 models. Obviously, these owners are going to be very concerned about their vehicles’ risk of rollover accidents. Typically, sports utility vehicles tend to come with a higher center of gravity, and this places them at a high risk of rollover accidents compared to smaller passenger vehicles. These increased risks of rollovers therefore are definitely a cause of worry to both California car accident lawyers and owners of the new Toyota Lexus.

The company has already taken other steps to limit the kind of damage to its reputation this new warning is going to cause. It has already offered free loaner cars to owners of the 2010 Lexus vehicles. It has also temporary halted sales of the Toyota Lexus until it manages to find a fix for the problem. Hopefully, this fix is going to be much more effective than the earlier fix Toyota engineers had developed for the unintended acceleration problem. Those repairs have been found to do nothing to stop the problem of unintended acceleration. Several motorists have reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that their cars continued to accelerate high-speeds even after they had been repaired.

Meanwhile, a California judge will preside over the sudden acceleration lawsuits that Toyota is facing. The US Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation announced this week that these lawsuits will be heard by Judge James V. Siena. The judge has quite a task ahead of him as he presides over a network of complicated cases, ranging from loss of resale value of Toyota vehicles and consumer fraud claims, to personal injury and wrongful death claims arising from acceleration-related accidents.
