Chef Mate Blenders Recall Affect More Than 10,000 Units

Chefmate blenders recalled

The blenders pose serious laceration and amputation risks.

Target and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced a Chef Mate Blenders recall after these were linked to several reports of finger and hand lacerations. The recall affects more than 300,000 units.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the agency and the Minneapolis-based retailer have received close to a dozen reports of injuries caused by a rotating blade assembly that can come loose from the pitcher.  The reports involve the Chef Mate 6-Speed Blender Model BL-10.  The white plastic blade assembly can detach from the plastic pitcher while the blender is in operation.  This can expose the blades, posing a serious laceration and amputation risk to users.

The Chef Mate blenders recall affect units that were manufactured in China for a company called Select Brands in Kansas.  These blenders were sold at Target stores between September 2007 and February 2011.  Owners of these blenders are advised to look for the model number on the base of the blender.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission advises all owners of the blenders to stop using these immediately.  These blenders must be returned to the Target Store for a full refund.

Most injuries involving defective products that Los Angeles dangerous product lawyers come across involve products that have been poorly designed, or a manufacturing defect.  When a product is defective because of a bad design, all products of that design are defective.  However, when a product is dangerous because of manufacturing or production defects, then only certain batches or lots of the product may be defective.

A defective product lawsuit in California can name design defects or manufacturing defects.  However, many defective product-related injuries also occur because consumers were not adequately warned about the specific hazards related to the product.  For instance, a product that is perfectly safe for one type of use, may not be safe, or may even be dangerous when used for another purpose, or in another manner.  In such cases, products must come with clear warning labels that warn about the dangers to consumers when these products are used in a different manner, or for a different purpose.  A product may be considered defective, if it does not come with a warning label.

Regardless of the cause of the defect, injuries caused by dangerous products can be very serious.  This is especially so because many of these injuries involve products that consumers don’t expect to be injured by.  You don’t expect to be injured when you’re walking your child in a stroller in the park.  Yet, there have been several recalls involving strollers that had to be recalled because of amputation hazards.
