Victims Begin Process of Claims in Metrolink Train Crash

The process of dividing the $200 million settlement to families of people killed in the Los Angeles Metrolink train crash as well as the survivors of the crash, has begun.  More than 100 people were injured when the Metrolink train crashed head-on into a freight train in 2008.  At least two of the people who were injured presented their claim for a judge in Los Angeles last week.  The victims are calling upon the judge to divide the $200 million settlement among the families of the 25 victims of the crash, as well as the people who were injured.

Nevada Truck Driver in Train Accident Had Record of Violations

Lawmakers in California are calling on a French company to set aside more money for compensation for victims of the 2008 Metrolink train accident in Los Angeles.  According to members of the Congressional delegation, the victims’ medical and other expenses are likely to exceed the $200 million already paid by the company and Metrolink.

NTSB Blames San Francisco Muni Crash on Operator’s Medical Emergency

The National Transportation Safety Board has completed its investigation into the 2009 San Francisco Muni accident involving a light-rail train that left dozens of passengers injured.  According to the investigation, the operator of the train had blacked out, and just before this, he had switched off the electronic controls that would have stopped the train automatically.  The National Transportation Safety Board report also blames Muni for not enforcing a rule that requires operators not to switch off the controls before the train reaches the platform.

National Transit Group Seeks Deadline Extension for Train Accident Prevention Technology

Soon after the Metrolink train crash near Chatsworth Los Angeles in 2008, Los Angeles train accident attorneys had called for the use of high-tech on commuter rails in order to prevent such accidents in the future.  In response, Senator Dianne Feinstein Democrat-California sponsored a bill to deploy the systems, known as positive train control systems, across the country.  The deadline to roll out the systems was set as 2015.  Now, a national group of transit companies have asked for an extension of the deadline.

San Francisco City Offers to Settle Cable Car Accident Injury Lawsuit for $2 Million

Lawyers for the city of San Francisco have offered $2 million to a woman who was seriously injured in a cable car accident, to settle the accident injury lawsuit. According to the San Francisco Examiner, the settlement that has been proposed to the victim Alma del Bosque has not yet been approved by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
