CPSC’s New Consumer Product Safety Website Goes Public

The database will allow consumers to report dangerous consumer products.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched its new consumer product safety website saferproducts.gov.  The launch of the database was part of the provisions of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, and was mandated by Congress.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission launched the new database on 11 March, and has encouraged consumers to visit the database to report harmful injuries or defective products.

The Food and Drug Administration is warning that the use of the osteoporosis drug Reclast has been linked to an increased risk of kidney failure.  According to the agency, people who already suffer from kidney problems or may be at risk of kidney trouble because they’re taking other potentially harmful medications along with Reclast, are at a high risk of suffering kidney damage.

FDA Warns High doses of Celexa May Cause Cardiac Injuries

High doses of the antidepressant can cause abnormalities in the cardiac rhythm.

The Food and Drug Administration wants Americans to know that taking high doses of Celexa could cause abnormalities in cardiac rhythm, which could prove deadly.  The agency has reduced the maximum recommended dose of the antidepressant to 40 mg.

FDA Seizes $6 Million Worth of Possibly Defective Products from Troubled Triad Group

US Marshals seized more than $6 million worth of possibly defective products from the notorious Triad Group facility in Wisconsin, which has been at the center of a contaminated alcohol wipes medical scandal.  According to the agency, Marshals have seized products that are manufactured by Triad Group as well as H&P because of the risks of contamination of these products.
