San Francisco Nursing Home Fined in Resident’s Death

A San Francisco nursing home has been handed a stiff penalty of $100,000 in connection with the death of a patient.  The nursing home, Convalescent Center Mission Street, which has since changed its name to San Francisco Nursing Center, has been handed down the stiffest penalties that the state regulatory agencies can hand down.  The nursing home has also been given the agency’s most senior AAA citation.

California Nursing Home Beating

California Nursing Home BeatingCalifornia investigators are looking in to the death of a Laguna Hills nursing home resident.  The 94-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his 81-year-old roommate.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect William McDougall allegedly used a bar that was used to hang clothes from a closet, and beat his roommate to death.  The victim was found with severe head injuries, and was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead.  The incident occurred at the Palm Terrace Healthcare Center, a 99-bed nursing home facility in Laguna Hills.  Investigators are still trying to find a motive for the California nursing home beating.

Sacramento Jury Hits Nursing Home with $28 Million Punitive Damages Verdict

A nursing home in Rocklin got an unexpected verdict this week. The nursing home has been slapped with a $20 million verdict for punitive damages in the death of a resident. The nursing home Colonial Healthcare of Auburn as well as its parent company, Horizon West of Rocklin, were both found guilty of elder abuse.
