More bad luck for Toyota

It feels like 2009 all over again.  Toyota has once again announced a massive recall of millions of vehicles for the same sudden unintended acceleration issues that the company has grappled with for close to two years.  This time, the company is recalling 2.17 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles that were sold in the US.  According to Toyota, the problem with these vehicles is that the floor mat could jam the car’s accelerator pedal, possibly causing unintended acceleration.

Four Dead After Speeding BMW Crashes at the 215 in San Bernardino

Police are investigating the fatal Newport Beach accident that occurred over the weekend. They are looking into a number of potential causes, including whether the driver was on medications at the time of the crash. Increase in Car Defects and Recalls in 2010

Volvo Airbag Recall Affects 113,000 Cars

Volvo Cars has announced a recall of 113,600 cars across the world for potential problems with airbag systems and steering systems.  According to a spokesman for the company, at least 100,100 of these vehicles have been recalled because of a possibility that the airbags won’t function.

Feds Investigating Mini Cooper for Steering Failure

After an investigation into the BMW Z4 for power steering failures, it is now the Mini Cooper turn to be probed by the feds for similar problems.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated an investigation into power steering failure in the Mini Cooper that could possibly increase the risks of an accident.

Expansive Auto Safety Bill Makes It through Senate Committee

A far-reaching auto safety bill has just been approved by a Senate committee. The bill will penalize automakers for failing to report safety defects and it also increases the powers of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Last month, the bill was approved by a House committee amid major wrangling by automakers who opposed some of the measures contained in the bill. These include a provision requiring all vehicles to come with black box data recorders.

Lexus Recall of 2010 Lexus GX460 SUV and Siena Minivans

Toyota has issued another recall, and this time it’s a Lexus Recall. Last week, Consumer Reports magazine announced that their tests had found a potential rollover risk in the new 2010 Toyota Lexus GX 460. According to the magazine, the vehicle had a tendency to slip sideways when the driver lifted his foot off the gas pedal, increasing the risk of a rollover. The magazine had issued a “Don’t Buy” warming for the new Lexus.
