E. coli Testing Expanded to Several Other Strains

E.Coli testing for additional strains can help prevent more food poisoning outbreaks.

The meat industry is being required to test for at least six more strains of the deadly E. coli organism, in order to reduce the number of infections that are being caused by these strains.  Currently, the industry only tests for the common O157:H7 strain of E. coli, and has been doing so for at least 17 years.  The new regulations would require the industry to have the E.coli testing expanded to other strains as well.
