A dog bite incident was the cause of a violent brawl in a Sydney neighborhood last week.  The entire incident is believed to have begun when a fifty-year-old woman was attacked by a dog.  However, things quickly took a turn for the worse, when the woman’s family confronted the dog’s owner.

Sonoma City Council Decides against Legislation Banning Pit Bulls

The Sonoma City Council has decided against a legislation banning pit bulls, in favor of outreach programs and neuter programs in order to reduce the threat of dog bites.  Calls for more specific legislation against aggressive breeds had mounted after a ferocious attack involving a pit bull in Pacifica.

In 2010 California had 369 dog bite claims.

According to State Farm Insurance, California led the country in the number of dog bite claims filed in 2010.  Overall, there were 369 dog bite claims filed in the state in 2010.  These resulted in total payouts of $11.3 million.  The average dog bite claim in California was settled for about $30,000.

Five-year-old Child Injured in Fremont Dog Bite

A German Shepherd attacked and mamed a 5 year old girl in Freemont.

A five-year-old child in Fremont was left with serious injuries after she was attacked by a German shepherd which had a previous history of bites.  According to Fremont police, the attack which occurred in April, was completely unprovoked.

Felony Charges against California Pit Bull Owner Dropped after Dogbite Attack

Felony charges against the owner of two pit bulls involved in a deadly dog bite attack on a Mountain Ranch man last year, have been dropped.  The charges were dropped at a preliminary hearing earlier this week.  The attack, which occurred in August 2010, had killed one man.

Can you ban a breed of dogs?

A proposed ban on pit bull breeds in another state has California dog bite attorneys wondering about the effectiveness and practicality of a ban like this, and whether it would help reduce pit bull attacks at all.  The state of Texas is mulling a ban on pit bull breeds, and as predicted, this has triggered an enormous debate in that state with pit bull owners on one side, and victims of dog bites on the other. The proposal stems from a fatal dog bite involving 10-year-old Justin Clinton in Texas. In 2009, the boy was attacked by two pit bulls. He sustained serious injuries, and died.
