Construction Worker Injured in California Trench Collapse

January 3rd, 2011
Trench Collapse

Cannot imagine the horrors of being buried alive.

It’s absurd to California construction accident lawyers that something as preventable as a trench collapse continues to occur so often in the construction industry. This week, a construction worker in San Diego suffered moderate injuries when the trench in which he was working, collapsed. As the mud began to pour into the trench, the man’s legs folded under him, trapping him in that position until rescuers were able to retrieve him.

Tips for Construction Work Zone Safety

April 14th, 2010

Construction Work Zone Safety

Construction work zone safety is very important. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has very few standard guidelines in place that can protect highway construction workers from serious injuries or death in motor vehicle accidents. As a result, every year, hundreds of workers working at construction work zones around the country are killed when they are struck by motorists speeding through a work zone. Other construction workers may be killed when they are electrocuted or run over by construction vehicles, like tractors or fork trucks. These deaths are entirely preventable, but in the absence of federal guidelines, have been left unchecked.

Construction Worker Killed in Hermosa Beach Trench Collapse Accident

March 11th, 2010

A construction worker was killed in a tragic accident in Hermosa Beach in California this week, after he fell into an open trench and the walls collapsed around him.

The accident occurred at a construction site of an 8,289 sq. ft. office complex and parking garage. The worker was apparently standing on a platform about 6 feet from the ground, and about 15 feet from the bottom of the open trench. He was using a compactor to push steel filings used for retaining the wall. The vibration from the compactor he held in his hand, seems to be what caused him to lose his balance, and fall headfirst into the open trench. As that happened, the mounds of soil that were stacked at the sides began to fall into the open trench, burying and suffocating him.

A construction worker, who was supervising activity in a construction zone in Sacramento, was killed when a driver struck him.

The worker Arnoldo Placencia was engaged in road repairs with two other workers when he was struck by Sacramento resident Nancy Richards. 26-year-old Richards was driving at 75mph when her car veered into a construction zone, and struck Placencia. Nancy’s car then traveled on, crashing into a flatbed truck that was parked there. She also died in the construction accident. The accident occurred at about 1:20am when Placencia was overseeing the night shift. The construction zone had a 40mph speed limit. Placencia seems to have been thrown about 100 feet into the air.
