Accidents Resulting from Children Left Unattended in Cars, On the Rise

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this week issued a warning to parents, to never leave their children unattended in cars. The agency issued a special consumer advisory in response to a spike in deaths involving children left unattended in cars, and suffocated to death.

New IIHS Report Says Older Motorists Driving More, Involved in Fewer Accidents

A new status report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that concerns about a growing population of elderly motorists and their increased accident risks, may be exaggerated.

The report shows that there may be more numbers of older drivers out there, and they may be driving more than before, but they aren’t really being involved in more numbers of accidents than before. If anything, the rates of senior driver fatal accidents actually declined over the past decade. The rates of fatal accidents per licensed driver aged above 70, declined between 1997 and 2008. There was also a sharp decline in the numbers of less serious accidents involving motorists of the same age group.

Pedestrians and Bicyclists Continue to Be at Risk for an Accident

September 30th, 2011

Two separate fatal accidents involving a pedestrian and a bicyclist this week in Los Angeles, have again underscored the lack of respect for the rights of these persons.

The first accident involved a bicyclist and the driver of a pickup truck in Long Beach. The accident occurred on Saturday. The bicyclist was riding his bike on Carson Street at about 11:50 PM when he was struck by a pickup truck, which was being driven in the same direction. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police are still seeking information about this accident. The driver of the pickup truck was 70 years old.
