NTSB Warns about Boat Accident Risks Due to Cell Phone Use

Boat accidents might occur when the operators are distracted by cell phones.

The use of cell phones and other devices while operating boats represent a risk.

The National Transportation Safety Board has cautioned about the boat accident risks involving the use of cell phones and other devices by the operators of the boats might increase.  The agency was making the observations as part of its final report into the duck boat-tugboat accident that occurred on the Delaware River last year.

Investigations begin looking the cause of this deadly boating accident0

A 46-year-old man, who was rescued after a boating accident off Strand Beach, has succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.   The Coast Guard responded to the scene of the accident after receiving a Mayday call from the boat.  When they reached the site, they found a man on a rock outcropping.  The man was arrested, and taken to the Laguna Beach Hospital, but he died later.

Coast Guardsman Faces Court Martial in Fatal Boat Accident in San DiegoThe Coast Guardsman who was driving the boat that killed an eight-year in a fatal boat accident in the San Diego Bay, is set to be tried at a general court-martial. Coast Guardsman Petty Officer Third Class Paul Ramos will be tried on charges of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and negligent homicide.  If he’s found guilty, he’s likely to be sentenced to up to 20 years for the deadly boat accident that killed eight-year-old Anthony De Weese.

Alcohol fueled floating parties are be disastrous!

In 2007, Sacramento County enacted a ban on alcohol on a stretch of the American River, during the three major holidays of the year-the Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Labor Day.  That came in response to the fear that these waters attracted large groups of young partiers with plenty of free-flowing alcohol, contributing to noisiness and traffic jams on the way to the water.  There were also the safety concerns that arise when you have large numbers of young people gathered on the water, and no control over the flow of alcohol.  Cities around the country are planning similar bans.
