The number of vehicles recalled in 2011 dropped from the number in the previous year.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in all, 15.5 million automobiles were recalled in 2011, compared to 20 million vehicles in 2010.

Pedestrians and Bicyclists Continue to Be at Risk for an Accident

Two separate fatal accidents involving a pedestrian and a bicyclist this week in Los Angeles, have again underscored the lack of respect for the rights of these persons.

The first accident involved a bicyclist and the driver of a pickup truck in Long Beach. The accident occurred on Saturday. The bicyclist was riding his bike on Carson Street at about 11:50 PM when he was struck by a pickup truck, which was being driven in the same direction. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police are still seeking information about this accident. The driver of the pickup truck was 70 years old.

Increased Seat Belt Usage Will Keep California Motorists Safer in Accidents

Rear seat belt usage rates are much lower than seatbelt usage rates for drivers and front seat passengers

California already has had some of the highest seat belt usage rates in the country.  These rates hover at about 96% across the state, and Los Angeles car accident lawyers find that most drivers choose to buckle up before they set off on the road.  The California Highway Patrol however, believes that more can be done to nudge seatbelt usage rates to 100%.  The agency wants all California drivers to buckle up before they begin driving.
