Massive Honda Recall for Airbag Defects

Things are not looking good for Honda.

Honda’s safety issues with its airbags seem to continue as the company announced yet another recall of vehicles, this time for an airbag safety defect.  The company has announced that it is adding approximately 830,000 more Honda vehicles to earlier recalls for airbag defects. The recalls have been announced because the airbags deployed with too much force during accidents.

Missing Airbags in Used Cars Poses Risks to Drivers

Most airbag deployment failures in fatal accidents are not the result of manufacturer defect or negligence, but missing airbags that were never replaced after a previous accident.  That information comes from statistics by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2008, which found that motorists in California and around the country, who are driving used vehicles, may be at risk from injuries from missing airbags.

Ford Recalls Pickup Trucks for Defective Airbag Accident

Recalled for potential defective airbags.

Ford Motor Company has announced the recall of thousands of F-150 pickup trucks for safety issues related to a defective airbag accident.  The company announced on Wednesday a recall of 144,000 Ford F-150 pickup trucks sold in the US and Canada.  According to Ford, the recall was triggered after complaints from consumers that airbags in these tracks suddenly and unexpectedly deployed as soon as the car was started.

Chrysler Recalls Minivans over Airbag Deployment Failure Risks

Recall alert for 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & County.

Chrysler has announced a recall of more than 367,000 minivans because of airbag deployment failure in these vehicles. The recall involves 357,350 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans. These vehicles belong to the 2008 model year. According to Chrysler, water leaks from the air conditioning system could cause the airbags to malfunction and inflate inadvertently.

Why are so many airbags failing?

A new study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that there have been more widespread airbag failures in auto accidents in the US than California car accident attorneys had previously estimated. An investigation by a television station who analyzed data from an internal report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimated that air bags failed in about 576 accidents over a six-year period.

Volvo Airbag Recall Affects 113,000 Cars

Volvo Cars has announced a recall of 113,600 cars across the world for potential problems with airbag systems and steering systems.  According to a spokesman for the company, at least 100,100 of these vehicles have been recalled because of a possibility that the airbags won’t function.

NHTSA Upgrades Investigation into Ford-150 Airbags after Reports of Injuries

January 22nd, 2010

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded and expanded its investigation into dozens of complaints that airbags on some F-150 pickups deployed suddenly and without warning, leading to injuries. The investigation has been updated to an engineering analysis, which may be the last step before a recall is announced. However, there is no indication that a recall of Ford pickups is in the works. Last year, the NHTSA had launched a preliminary review of 2005 pickups. The updated investigation now covers pickup trucks of model year 2004 to 2006.
