California Product Liability Lawyers Alert Consumers to the Worst Toys of 2009

It’s that time of the year when California product liability lawyers have defective and unsafe toys on their minds. A toy safety watchdog has released its list of top ten worst toys of 2009, just in time to warn parents.

The watchdog group, World Against Toys Causing Harm, released its list of dangerous toys this month. Parents and relatives everywhere should read the list to make sure that they are not considering buying any of these toys. The list include several toys that pose a serious choking hazard from small parts, or present a risk of penetration and blunt force injuries.   According to WATCH, the annual list of the worst toys includes those that have potential to cause injuries to children, or even kill them.

1. Kicking off the list is the Disney-Pixar Wall-E Rocket Launcher. This toy is manufactured/ distributed by Disney/Hoop retail stores, and recommended for children above the age of 3. The launcher makes use of air pressure to shoot a rocket that can travel up to 20 feet. While the packaging label says that the toy is “FUN FOR ALL AGES,” the fact that it should not be used by kids below 3, is only mentioned in tiny lettering.  The rocket can launch at high speeds, and has the potential to cause serious eye injuries.
2. The second toy is the Moon Board Pogo Board, sold at Toys R Us, and manufactured by Big Time Toys LLC. Although the toy comes with warnings to use proper safety equipment, it still has serious potential for head and impact injuries.
3. The Curious Baby Curious George Counting -My First Book of Numbers sold at Toys R Us, and manufactured/distributed by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company has the potential for causing serious choking injuries. The book comes with a 6 ½ inch long rod, holding five beads which have the potential to come off, causing a serious risk of ingestion and choking.
4. The Dark Knight Batman figure sold at Toys R Us and manufactured/distributed by Mattel has two 1 inch ears that are made of sharp, pointy plastic. This poses a serious risk of penetration injuries.
5. The X-MEN Origins Slashin’ Action Wolverine sold at BJ’s and manufactured/distributed by Hasbro poses a potential risk of eye and other impact injuries. The figure has pointed plastic claws on both fists that can cause penetration injuries, but the packaging contains no warning about the possibility of injuries.
6. The Lots to Love Babies mini nursery sold at Kmart and manufactured by JC’s Toys Group, poses a serious choking risk, because of a small plastic attachment that is only connected by a thin plastic cord, and can be detached by a child.
7. Just Kidz JR musical instruments is sold by Sears, and manufactured by Kmart. It comes with a 4 ¼ inch drumstick, which is connected to a xylophone, and which can easily detach and pose a serious hazard
8. The CAT “rugged mini” is manufactured by Toy State International Limited and has axles and wheels that can separate from the chassis, revealing a three-inch long metal spoke with the potential for puncture injuries.
9. The Pucci Pups Maltese sold at Wal-Mart and manufactured/distributed by Battat Incorporated, has a potential for strangulation and aspiration injuries.
10. Spy Gear Viper Blaster sold at Kmart and manufactured/distributed by Wild Planet Entertainment Inc., has darts that can shoot with enough force to cause serious eye injuries.
