Amusment Park Accidents Still Occurring as 10 injures at Knott’s Berry Farm

Amusement park accidents are still a scary thought for many riders.. At least 10 people suffered injuries in an accident on a roller coaster ride at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park.

The accident occurred on Thursday on the Pony Express ride.  According to the Los Angeles Times, one of the roller coaster cars on the ride failed to move up the incline and rolled backwards.  It slammed into another roller coaster car, which was waiting in the station.  At least 10 people in the car aged between 12 and 60 years, suffered injuries.  There is no information on how many passengers were on the ride at the time of the accident.  Most of the injuries were neck and back injuries.  However, all of the injured had to be taken to a hospital.

According to Park representatives, the ride opened in 2008, and there had never been any problems with malfunctioning of the ride until now.  Knott’s Berry Farm has said that an investigation will be conducted into the accident.  From what initial information is available, it looks like there was some kind mechanical failure on the Pony Express ride, which sent one of the cars rolling backwards instead of traveling up the incline, causing it to crash into the stationed cars. It looks like amusement park accidents will still be a deterrent for many.

Some of the most common neck injuries include whiplash.  These kinds of injuries are caused when a person sitting in a stationary position or traveling at slow speeds is struck from behind at great force and speed.  The person’s torso may be thrown forward, while the head and neck may be flung backwards and then forwards at high speed.  This causes tremendous pressure on the neck muscles, leading to whiplash.
